DescriptionMan's single-breasted short coat (.a) of black horse-hide with a belt (.b). The single-breasted front closure has four plastic buttons on the proper right side, with corresponding keyhole buttonholes on the left. The bottom two buttons have been replaced with mismatches. A smaller button and hole are sewn at the neck. The coat is constructed with a yoke on each side front and across the shoulders on the back. There is a center back seam, with no vent, and a side back seam close to each under arm. All seams, excluding those of each armscye, are top stitched on each side of the seam line. Belt loops (7/8 inches wide) are attached to the sides under each arm. The sleeves are made of three pieces of horse hide; the bottom is pieced with a seam under the arm. There are three metal eyelets under each arm for ventilation. The 2 1/2-inch-wide cuffs are attached with a two-button closure or flap for adjustment. A 2 1/2-inch-wide, ribbed cuff is stitched inside the bottom of each sleeve to provide additional protection. There are four pockets on this jacket. The hip pockets are single welt, flap pockets lined with a cotton flannel material. A vertical, double welt pocket is sewn into each side front at chest level. These are also lined with the cotton flannel. The coat is lined with a twill-woven plaid of red and grey, with blue and green stripes. The sleeves are lined with a black cotton fabric.
The belt (.b) is pointed at one end, with a metal slide buckle at the opposite end. Lined with a black twill-woven cotton. Made from three pieces, so there are two seams.
