DescriptionPainting of the Churchill House in Newington, Connecticut. The house is seen from the front and has fallen into a state of disrepair, with a large hole in the roof to the left of the chimney and the side of the house on the left fading into the background. There is a fence on the right, and trees are just visible in the background.
NotesSubject note: The Churchill House was built about 1761-62 in the south part of Newington on land Captain or Deacon Charles Churchill (1723-1802) inherited from his father. It had seven open fireplaces and four great ovens, one of which was large enough to roast an entire ox. The house was demolished in the early twentieth century, as it was succumbing to structural failure.
