DescriptionThree men in a cart drawn by a horse are driving past a two-story center chimney house. The horse is labeled "FANNY." The men are labeled "G.S." "H.D.W." and "G.A.D." The house has a lightning rod on the roof and farm buildings, are attached in an ell at the rear. A rain barrel is between the attached sheds. Trees, including evergreens, grow around the house. A metal fence surmounts a dressed stone retaining wall; the fence posts have fanciful--probably imaginary--heads on them. A rough stone wall and a rail fence are at the far left. Two fighting cocks are in front of the house. Additional roosters, hens, and chickens are at the right, near a cat eating from a bowl and two boys playing. The boys are labeled "H.D.W.Jr." and "R.S.A." The boy in back holds a whip and a rope which extends around the waist of the boy in front. The boy in front is pulling a toy wagon. A hay wagon drawn by oxen is at the far right. A man with a rake is on top of the load of hay. A second man, with a whip, walks in front. A boy wearing overalls and a hat is seated on a rock in the foreground. He is drawing on a sheet of paper labeled "J.S.W.", identifying the figure as a self-portrait of the artist, Jacob S. Woodworth.
