NotesConstituent note: Painting's attribution is possibly based on research undertaken by William L. Warren, CHS's former curator, in the 1950s and '60s. However, the basis for the attribution is unknown, and Wright's birth year, 1832, would put him at having painted the portrait of Helen Webb at the age of 16 if she was painted before her death in 1848. The lack of information about why Warren attributed these two paintings (1957.52.1-.2) to Wright, along with the potential age of the artist, bring the attribution into question.Status
