NotesSubject Note: The Wadsworth Atheneum hosted a series of public programs on the first Thursday of the month for several years in the 2000s, featuring performers from a variety of ethnic communities in Connecticut. These events, called “After Hours,” included films, food often from the ethnic community represented, and tours of the exhibits. CCHAP attended many of these events to document artists and from 2013-2019 to present the Mas Camp teens in performance at the summer Block Party that was one of the First Thursday events each August.
Biographical Note: Lorena Garay performs Latin music on guitar. From Puerto Rico, Lorena plays solo concerts and with her band Surcari whose members included multi-instrumentalist (pan pipes, etc) Eugenio Huanca, and Tany Cruz, who played charango and pan pipes – both of them are from Chile. Lorena and Surcari have recorded several albums. Lorena is skilled in music education and presents many musical programs in schools.
Additional audio, video, and photographic materials exist in the archive relating to these artists.
