DescriptionA man in military uniform is seated on a bank beneath a tree, leaning on a walking stick. He has a beard and has a knapsack and bed roll on his back. His hat and a bundle tied up with a white cloth are on the ground beside him. A woman with a baby on her back stands to the right of the soldier. The infant holds something to its mouth, apparently eating. The woman wears a hat, a cloak, a short dress, and slippers. At the right, a barefoot girl helps a small barefoot boy to drink from a pitcher. The boy wears a vest, shirt, and short pants and has a basket on his back. A wooden bucket is on the ground nearby, and small dog is at the right near some rocks. A man and a woman walk along a dirt road in the right background near a wall or embankment.
