NotesSubject Notes: This event celebrated the revitalization of the Kelvin D. Anderson Center, a long-time community center and children’s activity, welfare, sports, and educational space in the North End of Hartford. The event was a multicultural festival featuring local artists from ethnic and cultural groups including Indian, Native American, Jewish, Brazilian, and African diaspora, jazz and gospel, hip hop, rap artists. At this time CCHAP was collaborating with performers Cashiboo, a group of visiting artists from Trinidad who were presenting workshops at the Institute for Community Research in Caribbean hair braiding, Carnival mask-making, drumming, and dancing. Cashiboo was sponsored by the Sankofa Kuumba Dance Troupe, a well-known and popular African diaspora arts group and educational organization directed by Christine Dixon-Smith, also known as Sister Nandi.
