NotesSubject Note: The African-American Day Parade was first held in Hartford in September 1994. Organized by community activists to showcase Black accomplishments, celebrate local history, and instill pride in heritage, the Parade featured several marching bands, drill teams, organizations and immigrants from Africa marching in native dress, martial arts schools, floats created by Black organizations, church choirs, the Artist Collective musical groups, and more. The Parade was followed by a gathering in Keney Park. After a gap of seven years, the parade returned to Hartford in 2015, organized by the Emerging Leaders Network.
