NotesSubject Note: The Puerto Rican Family festival sponsored by the Meriden Hispanic Foundation began in 1992. Its purpose was to bring families together to promote “understanding and appreciation of cultural differences” and to celebrate Puerto Rican culture and heritage in this city with a high Latin, especially Puerto Rican, population – about one-third. The festival also provided information on voting rights. Local and visiting musicians performed along with dance groups and karate classes. Meriden also has a long running (since 1967) Puerto Rican Festival usually held in August. Cataloging Note: This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services MA-245929-OMS-20.
