DescriptionProgram: Bharatanatya Arangetram of Srinidhi Nambirajan, July 27, 2008. This was the first performance of the apprentice, in India, before she was in the CCHAP program.
NotesSubject Note: The Southern New England Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program is a CCHAP initiative since 1997 that connects artists in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island to teach and learn community-based folk and traditional art forms. Support has been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, the Institute for Community Research, and the Connecticut Historical Society.

Biographical Note: Srinidhi Nambirajan was a student of Bharata Natyam dance. In the Apprenticeship program she was mentored by teacher Sridevi Thirumalai. In her required public presnetation, the 15 year old apprentice performed a story piece from the Ramayanam epic, requiring strong expressive qualities as well as dance technique, supported by her mother as singer and a group of excellent musicians led by the master teacher. Srinidhi collaborated with CT Tamil Sangam on the event, raising $3500 for education in South India.

Additional audio, video, and/or photographic materials exist in the archive relating to these artists.
