DescriptionPortrait of Laura Wells Churchill and one of her children, probably Laura Churchill (based on the date of the painting as given in the Churchill genealogy). Laura Wells Churchill is shown as a young woman turned slightly to the left, with blue eyes and dark hair worn in ringlets. Her hair is covered by a white ruffled lace cap bound tightly to her head with a pink ribbon tied in a bow. She is wearing a square-necked, short-sleeved black dress, the neck almost covered by a lace fichu fastened by a rectangular brooch of onyx, seed pearls, and gold. This matches a ring worn on the first finger of her right hand. She is also wearing gold hoop earrings. Her arms are covered by long white lace mitts.
The child sitting on Churchill's lap is wearing an elaborate lace cap and a square-necked, short-sleeved white dress.
