DescriptionRectangular stencil made of rolled brass or copper sheet metal with the words: "C.S. AMBULANCE/WORKS/Richmond,Va." incised in the metal. The stencil would have been used to apply a painted inscription onto cloth bags, wooden boxes, the sides of horsedrawn carts, etc.

NotesHistorical Note: Stencil from the C. S. Ambulance Works in Richmond, Virginia that was used during the Civil War. This stencil was said to have been taken from Richmond on the morning of the evacuation, 3 April 1865. Donor Note: David L.
