DescriptionWoman's dressing gown of wool/cotton printed with a floral "indiennes" print on a black background. The dressing gown has a two-inch-wide black velvet collar. The center front opening extends 21 1/2 inches, although it appears to go all the way to the hem. The proper left side is ornamented with non-functioning black velvet-covered buttons, while the gown actually fastens with hooks and eyes. The shoulderline is dropped and the armscye is piped. The two-piece coat sleeves are fitted into the armscye with a small pleat taken under the arm. The gown is constructed with princess seams from the lower front armscyes to the hem. The back is constructed with curved side back seams; the center back is box pleated at the waistline, held in place with a single line of hand stitching. The dressing gown is lined with brown glazed cotton. A white cotton twill tape is stitched across the center back at the waistline for tying around the waist to keep the dressing gown smoothly fitted against the back. The bottom edge of the gown is bound with black wool tape.
