DescriptionWoman's dressing gown and matching belt of orange and multi-colored paisley-printed fabric, probably a wool/cotton combination, with the center front opening and hem bordered with purple wool, the edges of which are piped with the same. The purple wool accent continues over the shoulders, forming a V across the center back. The three-inch-wide, square, turn-down collar is also purple wool. The center front opening extends 29 3/4 inches, although it appears to continue to the floor. Non-functioning, purple wool-covered buttons are stitched down the proper left side of the opening; the opening actually fastens with hooks and eyes. The dressing gown is constructed with princess seams in front and with curved side-back seams in the back. The center back of the skirt is box-pleated into the waistline. The two-piece coat sleeves are stitched smoothly into the dropped armscye, which is finely piped with the paisley fabric. The sleeves are trimmed around the wrist openings with cuffs of the purple wool, trimmed with piping and non-functioning buttons. The underside of the collar is lined with black wool, and the body of the dressing gown is lined with printed cotton with a black, brown, and white checked design. The sleeves are lined with a madder print cotton. A strip of black cotton is stitched inside the waistline to tie around the waist and hold the dressing gown in place properly on the body, as the front is unfitted. The belt is made of the purple wool and fastens with hooks and eyes; it is unembellished.
