DescriptionMan's shirt of white cotton. The shirt is constructed with a yoke across the shoulders and a thirteen-inch-long, U-shaped bib of white linen. The bib is stitched with a box pleat down the center, worked with two small, round holes for accepting decorative studs. The bib is interlined with coarser cotton; it is stitched to the shirt front 3/4 of an inch inside the edges so that it gives the appearance of being separate from the shirt. The shirt has a band collar, which is 1/2 inch wide at the center front, increasing to 7/8 inch wide at the back. A buttonhole is stitched in the collar at the center front for accepting a separate starched collar. The shirt opens for a length of 13 1/2 inches down the center back; there are no fastening mechanisms except for buttonholes worked at the collar opening for fastening a stud. The long sleeves are stitched smoothly into the armscye and end in 1 1/2-inch-wide cuffs, which fasten with studs. The lower corners of the shirt front and back are curved up at the side seams to create a 9 1/2-inch-long vent; the top of each vent is set with a gusset. There is a narrow tape stitched vertically over the yoke on the proper left side of the opening.
