NotesSubject note, from Albert Carlos Bates card: Portrait presented by the subject to Silas E. Burrows of Groton, Connecticut, in 1848 and forwarded to the Connecticut Historical Society by Thomas H. Seymour. Mr. Burrows sailed into the harbor of St. Petersburg on August 31, 1848. On September 5th, John G. Kutusoff, Russian Councilor of State, came on board the Patapsco to pay him his respects "as the owner of the first American vessel which had ever been up to Petersburg."On View
