DescriptionPainting of the Charter Oak, depicting the tree standing and leaning to the left. The branches are in leaf. The trunk is much gnarled and a large hollow is visible in the front. There are four people in the painting, all quite small. To the right of the tree are a man and a woman. The man is wearing a long coat and top hat, and is pointing a cane towards the oak. The woman wears a hat, yellow shawl, and blue dress. To the left of the tree are two figures, both men, one a soldier. A man in short coat and vest is facing the artist. The soldier is in profile and wears yellow pants with a stripe down the side, tall boots with red cuffs, a long-tailed blue coat, and a tall hat with a plume in it. In the foreground is the title: "CHARTER-OAK."
