DescriptionWoman's jacket of black velvet. The jacket has a high, round neckline bordered by a collar-like semicircle of black wool which is embroidered and laid with fine, black silk braid; it ends in points on each side of the front, and it is edged with a ruffle of finely pleated black silk and white, machine-made lace. The center front opening of the coat fastens with hooks and eyes; there is also a decorative closure of four pairs of cord-covered buttons fastened together with loops of braided black silk cord. On each side of the front, next to the decorative buttons, are strips of the black wool, embroidered with oval medallions and laid with fine, black silk braid in vertical rows. These strips are angled towards the center at the waistline. More decorative strips are laid on the velvet along the sides, angling towards the front at the waistline; and on the back in two V shapes from the neckline and armscyes to the waistline. The skirt of the jacket is pleated and flared; it reaches to below the hips. The sleeves each consist of a velvet oversleeve and an undersleeve of flannel with a black sik cuff extending beyond the oversleeve. The full velvet oversleeves are gathered at the shoulder. Short tucks taken inside the elbow cause the sleeves to curve towards the body. The wrist opening of the oversleeve is cut in a W shape at the outside of the arm; it is bordered with the embroidered black wool strips like the body of the coat, and edged with a finely pleated black silk ruffle over a narrow ruffle of white lace. The black silk cuff of the undersleeve is decorated with a finely pleated black silk ruffle stitched into a band and two layers of ruffled white lace.

Inside the opening edge of the jacket, the cream-colored silk facings are embroidered in pastel shades of green and pink with stylized floral motifs. The lining of the jacket body is cream-colored silk satin; the lining of the skirt is black wool/silk. The jacket body is wadded, probably with cotton. There is a silk loop stitched at the back of the neck for hanging the jacket.
