DescriptionWoman's hat of pink grosgrain with a moire pattern, pink velvet trim, and a multitude of feathers. The hat is constructed over a frame of woven straw and wire, which is covered with the pink grosgrain fabric. There is a large brim all around, approximately four inches wide. The brim is edged with one-inch-wide pink velvet, turned over the edge. The circular crown is 1 5/8 inches high and seven inches in diameter. Three folds of pink velvet encircle the crown, interweaving with the feathers on the proper left and overlapping on the back. The feathers are the major decorative element on this hat. A large group of small feathers, some washed with a hue of pink, are grouped together below the brim on the proper left, with two bird's wings extending out from the brim edge. On the top, one bird's wing is stitched to the top of the crown, with the velvet passing over it and a number of speckled small feathers attached to the base of the wing. The brim of the hat is attached to the side of the crown, creating a jaunty angle. A large bow of pink velvet is attached to the underside of the brim, to the back of the feathers. The lining is white silk, with an edge of pink velvet around the base of the crown. The woven straw frame with metal can be seen under the shattered silk. Four seven-inch-long brass hat pins are stuck into the hat. Each pin has a round top; two are covered with a filigree pattern, and two have floral design decoration. These pins will stay with the hat at this time.
