DescriptionWoman's bonnet made from olive green felt with brown silk-covered cording, brown ribbons, fabric flowers, lace, a brown-colored feather and two enamel and rhinestone buttons. This diminutive bonnet is meant to sit on the top of the head of the wearer. The body of the bonnet is made from a braid of olive green felt and flat cording covered with brown silk thread. This braid is spiralled out from the center, supported and shaped by metal wire stitched into the overlapping braid. The front proper right side of the bonnet is decorated with three loops of 2 1/4-inch-wide, brown velvet ribbon. Each loop is sewn flat to the upperside of the bonnet, with the ends secured underneath. The proper left has a rosette of white net lace, from which extends a single brown feather. Next to this are two large flowers, stitched along the edge to the back. The fabric flowers are combinations of peach/pink and white, with peach-colored velvet leaves. The bottom of the back is curved, with a wave-like effect produced by the braided felt and cording. Two enamelled metal buttons, with rhinestones, are stitched to the back. There is no lining. The braided body is stitched to a frame made from black, stiffened net shaped with wire. This narrow frame is basically round, with widths of 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches. Two legs extend from it down the tops of the velvet ribbon ties. Each tie is 2 1/4 inches wide, extending approximately 28 inches with an angle cut at the end. There are two loops stitched on top of the beginning of each tie. A three-inch-long hatpin with a chenille top is stuck into the hat - it will remain with the hat at this time.
