DescriptionA man wearing a Union soldier's uniform stands in the interior of a room, apparently an entrance hallway. He has a mustache and sideburns. He holds his cap in his right hand, while his left hand encircles the waist of a woman wearing a dress trimmed with lace. She also wears pendant earrings, a snood, and a rose in her hair. A second young woman stands beside drapery at the right. A young man, who appears to be African American, enters the door at the left, carrying a large trunk. The floor is covered with tiles or a floorcloth in a checkerboard pattern.
