DescriptionA man on a dappled gray horse looks back over his shoulder as he points forwards with his sword. He wears a military uniform and has a mustache. A bedroll is on the back of his saddle. A regimental banner with a harp in a wreath is behind him. In the background, soldiers charge towards the right. Most hold rifles with fixed bayonets. One man carries an American flag. Two men are bare chested. Dead and wounded men lie on the ground. Also on the ground are a knapsack, a cannon ball, a shattered cannon, and a rifle but. A man falls backwards off earthworks containing a cannon battery at the right. A fallen Confederate flag is below. Trees and hills are visible in the distance, beyond the cannon smoke.
NotesSubject Note: Michael Corcoran was the commanding officeer of the 69th New York Militia, a unit of Irish volunteers. He was captured at the First Battle of Bull Run and later exchanged.
