DescriptionA young man wearing a Zouave uniform consisting of a fez with a tassel, a short jacket, a shirt, pantaloons, spats and low shoes. A pistol is tucked in a sash at his waist. He holds an American flag with thirty-four stars in his left hand and a cutlass in his right hand. A cannon on its carriage is in the left background, between what appear to be two large rocks. A shell explodes in the right background near three barrels and some boards.
