DescriptionA large group of Union soldiers in uniform, some wearing Zouave uniforms, occupy a hilltop. Some men fire rifles. Some wave swords. Some charge with fixed bayonets. Dead or wounded men lie on the ground. Hand-to-hand combat takes place on the summit at the right near a cannon and a large tattered American flag. A second American flag is at the far left. Large numbers of Confederate troops with a Confederate flag retreat in the left background. In the distance are tents, horse-drawn covered wagons, mountains and trees.
