DescriptionA group of men and children pose in front of a brick industrial building. Most men wear workclothes, including overalls, shirts, and vests. Some wear aprons. Some wear hats. In some cases, the clothes appear to be very dirty. Some men have beards and mustaches. Two small girls sit in a chair at the left. A small child wearing a short dress, pantalets, and high button shoes stands on a second chair. Two boys are at the right. In the center of the group, a short man wearing an apron and a stovepipe hat holds a sign that reads: "A. HATCH / MACHINIST". Other workers hold tools, including a shovel, a sledge hammer, mallets, and some kind of measuring device. They stand on a paved sidewalk. Wooden posts are spaced along the edge of the street.
NotesSubject Note: The location of the shop is not known. On the basis of the name Goodyear, it has been suggested that it might be in New Haven. (Finlay 6/18/2003)
