DescriptionGirl's bonnet of an ivory-colored damask with accents of light peach and blue printed onto the fabric. The bonnet is trimmed with long sprays of leaves and flowers. It is edged with cording and ties with peach colored velvet ribbon ties. The bonnet's small size indicates it is for a child. The brim angles up, away from the face at the center top, where it is 2 3/4 inches wide. The brim narrows down the sides to the rounded corners, which are in line with the crown at the back of the neck. The brim is lined with the same fabric as the rest of the bonnet. A thin cording of several light and dark brown colors is stitched to the edge of the brim and continues around the bottom of the bonnet. The crown is a shallow 1 3/4 inches deep at the center top. It's circular shape is 4 1/2 inches in diameter. The bottom is cut off flat across the back of the neck. The bonnet is trimmed along the brim with a spray of faux, bright green leaves (on wire stems) with a cluster of flowers, in a variety of pinks, on the proper right side. A second, longer spray is stitched to the intersection between the crown and the brim. This spray is comprised entirely of leaves, with a small cluster of flowers at the end on the proper right. Other flowers are scattered across the brim and top of the crown. A curtain made from two layers of net lace is stitched to the bottom of the bonnet. This lace, two inches wide, is colored with blue, peach, and red, which has probably been painted onto the lace. The ties are made from peach colored velvet, 1 7/8 inches wide and 22 3/4 inches long, cut at a diagonal at the ends. The frame of the bonnet is a heavily stiffened gauze. Wire is used along the edge to shape and stabilize the bonnet. Evidence of an off-white, light silk lining can be seen in the lower, inner corner of the proper left.
