DescriptionMen in uniform, most of them on horseback, ride through canyons and desert in the American Southwest. One photograph shows an army camp with tents pitched in rows and horses picketed at the right. Covered wagons, presumably supply wagons, are in the foreground. Mules drawing a covered wagon stand in front of a rocky cliff. A cross, presumably a red cross, is on the side of the wagon. Men on horseback cross a bridge across a rushing stream. Men in uniform march in files along a dirt road.
NotesSubject Note: According to a note from the donor, most of these photographs relate to the Geronimo Campaign of 1883-1886 and show an army campground and pack train composed of 30 Indian Scouts and Troop B 4th Cavalry in the Huachuca Mountains near Nogales, Mexico. Lt. Col. William F. Flynn of Connecticut was one of the commanding officers during this operation. 2003.4.18 appears to relate to a different action and is probably significantly later.
