DescriptionWoman's black silk coat. The shawl collar is edged with 3/4-inch-wide black silk braid in a basketweave pattern; black silk cording is laid in loops alongside the braid. The center front opening fastens with braid loops attaching to two large (1 1/4 inch diameter) buttons that are covered with basket-woven silk. The coat body is constructed with princess seams from the shoulders. The two-piece sleeves are slightly gathered into the shoulder; they are pleated into the three-inch-wide cuffs, which are decorated with black cording laid in an undulating pattern terminating in a tightly rolled spiral. The cuffs are cut with a pointed overlap at the top of the wrist. The upper seam of the sleeve is folded and top stitched to appear like a narrow tuck. The upper back of the coat is lined with self-fabric.
