DescriptionWoman's zouave-influenced bolero vest of cream-colored wool, heavily ornamented with gold-tone metallic cording laid out in swirls, and frond-like motifs around pointed oval medallions filled with a quatrefoil design. The vest has a standing collar, which is two inches high at the back. The armholes are edged with narrow gold braid. The top of the collar, continuing down the curved front edges and along the bottom of the vest, are edged with thick metallic cording. Below the neckline, the cording is further ornamented wth gold ball fringe. The shoulder and side seams, which are toward the back, are covered with narrow gold braid. The vest is lined with pale yellow silk/cotton damask, woven with a floral design. Through the hole in the lining fabric, it can be seen that the decorative metallic cording is stitched onto a paper backing behind the wool.
