DescriptionMaple and sycamore stand in the late Chippendale or early Federal style. The stand has a round top over a cylindrical pedestal, over a cylindrical base and three cabriole legs (replaced) each ending in a plain foot. The turned pedestal consists of a cylindrical portion over a short urn, a recessed band, and two projecting bands.
Condition: The legs are replaced. There are three nails through the center of the top. An unknown white substance has adhered to portions of the top surface. The cleat has been reinforced with screws. The pedestal top and base has split. The stand has been refinished.
Design and Construction Details: The top is made from a single board and is nailed to a rectangular cleat from below. The pedestal is tenoned into the cleat and reinforced with nails. Each leg is dovetailed to the base of the pedestal. An iron plate with three spokes is nailed and screwed to the underside of the pedestal, where the legs join the base.
