DescriptionChippendale side chair attributed to Eliphalet or Aaron Chapin shops, East Windsor or Hartford, c. 1780-1790. Chair has straight legs, a back splat with four vertical elements joined by two "V" shaped chevrons, and one inverted forming a diamond.

The slip seat has its original linen, three-piece webbing, original sackcloth, marsh grass stuffing, and original linen undercover held in place by many rose head nails. This upholstery technique is an indicator of the Chapin shops.

Glue blocks are all original, undisturbed, vertical grain pine, nailed with rose head nails. The crest rail is loose at the proper left stile and can be lifted to expose part of the round tenon joining the crest rail to the stile, another strong indicator of Chapin shops origin.
