DescriptionGirl's dress of olive-brown silk satin, embroidered in silk with sprays of white flowers. The dress has a high, round neckline with a narrow white linen collar embroidered with a rose at center front. The dress is constructed with a center front panel extending below the waist in a point. This panel is flanked by pleated self-fabric, which drapes down below the hips, with the lower corners embroidered with the white flowers. These panels are pulled up around the hips to the back, where the ends are gathered across the lower back, below the waistline. A large bow with embroidered and self-fringed tails decorates the center back at this level. The long, two-piece sleeves are embroidered with a spray of flowers at the back of the wrist. The bottom of the skirt is stitched with two tiers of box-pleated ruffles. The center back opening extends eighteen inches (to the bow) and fastens with eleven dark shell (abalone?) shanked buttons and one flat button at the top. The dress is lined with dark brown cotton. The embroidery is worked through both layers of satin and cotton lining.
