DescriptionWoman's petticoat of plain white cotton. It is smoothly fitted into the 3/4-inch-wide waistband across the front and over the hips, and closely gathered at the center back. A 14 1/2-inch-deep flounce edged with a whitework-embroidered ruffle is stitched around and over the lower portion of the petticoat, creating a double layer. The ruffle of the flounce is headed by seven rows of narrow tucks. The center back opening extends 12 1/4 inches and fastens with a single mother of pearl button on the waistband.
NotesHistorical Note: According to the donor, this petticoat was probably made by Matilda M. Logan. Matilda Logan and her sister, Theresa E. Logan, worked as dressmakers in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1889 to the 1920s.Status
