NotesRelated Note: This carte de visite was once owned by Nellie Crossley, Middletown and New Haven, Connecticut, grandmother of donor. Nellie's father William Collins Crossley (b. Middletown, CT 1824; d. Madison, CT 1891) was a ship builder, sailor and captain. Family records indicate voyages out of Honolulu, HI to Japan. (Dixon 11/23/2019)

Subject Note: Although the subject of this photograph is unidentified, due to the year the photograph was taken, and the fact that it was taken in Hartford, Connecticut, it is likely that the young boy was part of the Chinese Educational Mission. (Dixon 11/25/2019)
