DescriptionWhite cotton nurse's apron, probably worn by a Red Cross nurse in World War I. The apron has a long, gored skirt, which completely covers the dress skirt, front and back. It is stitched smoothly into the two-inch-wide waistband, which fastens with two mother of pearl buttons at the center back. The bib tapers to the waist and has a low, rounded neckline. The shoulder straps, cut one with the bib, extend approximately 27 inches, and would cross at the back and pin at the back waistband (there are pin marks on the waistband). The edges of the bib and shoulder straps are bound with bias self-fabric.
