DescriptionCoat for an older boy, made of twill-woven cotton printed with a brown and white houndstooth check pattern. The double-breasted coat fastens with three pairs of buttons; there are buttonholes worked on each side, so the coat can be buttoned to the right or to the left. The buttons are self-covered. The turn-down collar stands two inches high at the back of the neck and ends in V-notch lapels. The front of the coat skirt is cut away below the waistline, with rounded lower corners. There are two pockets covered by 2 1/2-inch wide flaps on each side of the front at about hip level. The two-piece sleeves end in 1 7/8-inch-wide, bias-cut cuffs, with a two-button closure at the outside of the wrist. The coat is constructed with three main pieces for the torso, seamed with curved side back seams and a center back seam. The shoulder seams angle down from the back of the collar to the center back of the armscye. There are two covered buttons at the intersection of the waist and side-back seams. The skirt of the coat overlaps at center back to form a vent; there are two narrow pleats on either side of the vent, aligned with the side back seams at the juncture decorated by buttons. The coat is lined with self-fabric in the upper two-thirds of the skirts and on each side of the front. The pocket bags are made of plain, white cotton.
