DescriptionA badge for five years of service in the Putnam Phalanx Service. There are four bars at the top of the badge that are attached to the ribbon, which provides the background for the badge. The four bars have "FIVE YEARS" inscribed on them. There is a chain from each side of the bottom bar that attaches to a medallion shaped object that has "PUTNAM PHALANX/ SERVICE" inscribed around a circle in the center. In the center of that circle is a relief image of a man. The ribbon is blue on top of another gold ribbon.
NotesHistorical Note: The Putnam Phalanx was formed in 1858 to welcome home Thomas H. Seymour, minister to Russia, on his return from that country. The group wears uniforms based on Continental uniforms of the 18th century.
