DescriptionBrass 77 mm shell casing (probably from a Howitzer) from World War I brought from France by Russell C. Chapman. Shell is engraved with dots in the background, flowers, and butterflies. Near the opening, "Verdun" is engraved in a banner. The "Verdun" engraving is likely in reference to the Battle of Verdun (21 February 1916 - 18 December 1916), one of the largest and longest battles fought during WWI.
