DescriptionGirl's dress made of a leno-weave (like gauze) fabric with a cotton warp and wool weft. The woven pattern is of large brown checks with red, black, and brown ovals in the centers. The wide neckline is edged with salmon pink silk-covered piping. The bodice fabric is pleated across the waist at front and into the neckline, in a slightly fanned design. The armscyes are piped with the salmon silk. The short sleeves consist of a 1 1/2-inch-wide, smooth, straight cap edged with a 3 1/2-inch-wide, self-fabric flounce. This flounce is bound along both edges with the salmon silk, matching the piping. The waistband is 1 1/4-inch-wide. The full skirt is pleated into the waistband. It is piped with the leno-weave wool along the bottom edge. The bottom of the skirt is flounced, like the sleeves. The bodice back is pleated from the waist to the shoulder, like the front. The center back opening extends 16 1/4 inches and fastens with brass hooks and eyes. The bodice is lined with plain, white cotton and the seams are boned. The remnants of a purple wool twill tape loop, for hanging the dress for storage, are on the inside of the dress. There is an in-seam pocket, with a white cotton pocket bag, on the proper right side of the skirt front.
