DescriptionMan's dressing gown of wool/cotton brocade, with an arabesque floral design in green outlined in orange, on a dark olive-brown background. The opening extends for the length of the center front; it fastens with three self-covered buttons, lapping left over right. The dressing gown has a shawl collar and two-piece coat sleeves. The sleeves are slightly gathered into the shoulder; both sleeves are patched with matching pieces of fabric on the forearms. The shoulder seams are dropped in the back. The gown flares from the shoulder to the hem. The side back seams are pleated at the waist; a 9 1/4-inch-long self-fabric tab is stitched at the top of the pleat on the proper right side, under a non-functioning button. The tab could be buttoned at the top of the pleat on the left side, controlling the fullness of the back; this button is now missing. The dressing gown is lined with dark brown wool, printed with a design of small gold and green ovals and red foliate designs. Through the moth holes and a seam opening of the lining, an interlining or earlier lining of brown calico can be seen. There is a wool twill tape stitched at the back of the neck for hanging the garment, and a breast pocket is stitched inside the proper left side of the dressing gown. The garment is accompanied by a bag of scraps of the olive and green brocade.
