DescriptionMan's black top hat with a 1 5/8-inch-wide black wool hatband. The brim is 1 7/8 inches wide and curves up on each side; it is bound with black grosgrain ribbon. The underside of the brim is lined with black fabric of a fine twill weave. The sides of the crown flare out from the base to the top. The crown is lined with cream-colored sarsnet (a fine silk) around the sides over a cardboard interlining. The top of the crown is lined with silk woven with satin and moire grosgrain stripes. The sweatband is an unidentified material, but appears to be a tan-colored, shellacked, thin leather.
