The woman's head and a small leaf or flower in her hair have been outlined with pencil. A ribbon separates the two portraits, which may be on separate sheets. The lower panel has a border of type ornaments and letterpress and manuscript inscriptions with information regarding Alvin Vining, Sarah Stone, and their four children (see below).
