DescriptionGirl's dress of gold silk brocade in a rose stripe design. The front and back of the bodice are shirred self-fabric, with a yoke of lace. The band collar is peach satin covered with lace, with a ruffle of lace extending above the band. A peach satin ribbon bow is stitched to the left side of the collar. The sleeves consist of heavily wadded puffs over the shoulder, trimmed around the arm opening with lace. The bottom of the bodice is trimmed with a double ruffle of lace. The skirt is pleated to the waistline. A double ruffle of lace extends beyond the skirt hem. The dress is open for thirteen inches down the center back. It fastens with six brocade-covered buttons and four thread-covered buttons, and thread loops. The bodice is lined with peach covered silk. The waistline is reinforced with a petersham ribbon. The inside of the neckline edge is reinforced with a silk ribbon.
NotesHistorical Note: According to museum records, Mabel Simpkins wore this dress to the wedding of her older sister, Elizabeth Simpkins Bacon, in November 1881.
