DescriptionCommercial buildings line Broadway in New York City. Part of a green park is at the left, surrounded by an iron fence. Barnum's American Museum is beyond. An American flag flies from roof. Signs on the store at the far left read: "Porter" "Cheapest Shirt" "Clean Shirts." The building at the right has an entrance with Doric columns and signs that read: "Berford & Co." "Leary & Co. Hatters." Church steeples are visible above the roof of this building and in the distance. Men and women crowd the sidewalks. A newsboy is in the immediate foreground. Horse-drawn vehicles, including horse-drawn omnibuses, are in the street.
NotesSource Note: Nathaniel Currier issued an identical print (Gale 0781). This was probably the source for the Kellogg print; however this should not be assumed until the relative dates of the two prints are established. It's also possible that the two prints had a common source. (Finlay 3/10/2004)
