DescriptionA man wearing a fur coat, turban, sash, shirt, pantaloons, and slippers is seated on a fur rug or a carpet, beneath a tent or awning. A dagger is in his sash. He has a beard and mustache. He holds the mouthpiece of a hookah in his left hand. The waterpipe rests on a low table with a coffee pot or pitcher, a cup, and a covered jar. A woman wearing a turban, a veil, and a gown reclines at the left, her elbow resting on the man's arm. Her jewelry includes earrings, braclets, and armbands. She wears a bracelet around one ankle and is barefoot. She holds a feather fan in her right hand. A lute leans against the cushions beside her. Flowering shrubs and palm trees are beyond a low wall or parapet. A man rides a camel led by another man in the background. Two small sailing vessels are on the water in the left background. Buildings are on a promontory nearby.
