DescriptionA view of a city or cities on both sides of a wide river. Rocks and trees are on the hillside in the foreground. The trees at the far left appear to be poplars. A stone building at the far right, with steps leading up to it and a cross on its roof, is probably a chapel. Seven men and women are in a field and on a dirt road below. One woman holds a sickle. Another woman appears to carry a bundle of hay on her head. A cart, apparently loaded with hay, disappears around the edge of a hill. Buildings in the town on the near bank of the river include houses and a church with a steeple and a cross. Buildings on the far shore include a large palace or institutional building with a central colonnade. A castle is on a hilltop in the right background. A bridge spans the river in the distance. Sailing vessels and other smaller boats are on the river.
