DescriptionBlack and white photograph of two men, one standing and one seated, looking into a cave among some rocks on a hillside. It is fall, as there are no leaves on the trees. The cave, also called the Wolf Den, is located in Pomfret, Connecticut. Legend says that on a night in 1742, Israel Putnam crept into the cave and shot a wolf that for years had preyed upon local sheep and poultry. Putnam became a noted general during the Revolution.
