DescriptionA rail fence encloses a farmyard and outbuildings. In the left foreground, a man, apparently an African American, rides a pacing horse toward the left. In the right foreground, two men stand beside the fence. A woman is directly behind them, within the fence. Also within the fence is a group of sheep and goats, and three cows. One of the cows is eating hay from a wagon. A barrel is beside the outbuilding at the left. A man feeds pigs and piglets in the background. A turkey and other poultry are nearby. A group of three figures and another group of two men are at the right, near a path or drive that leads towards a house. Some people appear to be African American. The house, with two brick chimneys, dormer windows, and a lean-to, is surrounded by a picket fence and is partially hidden by trees. Birds fly in the sky.
