DescriptionA man stands on a large rock at the edge of a river. He holds a walking stick or a rifle with its end resting on the rock. In the background, a waterfall descends a rocky cliff in three distinct cascades, then flows over rocks and another small waterfall at the far right. Grass and additional rocks are in the foreground. Trees grow at the left and right. High hills or mountains are visible in the distance.
NotesSubject Note: Kaaterskill Falls are located in the Catskill Mountains in New York State. The spelling of the names of the falls and the mountains was not standardized in the nineteenth century, but the spelling used in the title of this print is unusual. The representation of the falls is also inaccurate. The falls descend in two separate cascades, not three. (Finlay 11/29/2002)
