DescriptionFull-length portrait of a man with a beard and mustache, standing with his hands in his pants pockets. He wears a coat, vest, shirt, trousers, and shoes. A piece of cloth is draped over an upholstered armchair at the left. At the right, a pile of paper, possibly a manuscript, and a book are on a table covered with a tablecloth. A rolled map is nearby. Another map, inscribed "MAP OF / KANSAS" hangs on the wall in the left background.
NotesDate Note: This print probably dates from before the Harper's Ferry insurrection, since it does not allude to it. (Finlay 12/3/2002)
